Homes Along the Shining Sea Bikeway

Construction began over 40 years ago on a piece of property owned by a now-bankrupt railroad company. Today, that small purchase has grown to a 10.7 mile rail trail stretching from North Falmouth to Woods Hole. The Shining Sea Bikeway, a reference to Katharine Lee Bates’ America the Beautiful, is used by locals and visitors alike for biking, jogging, rollerblading and enjoying a leisurely day outdoors.

The Route

Winding past woodlands, marshes and salt ponds, the Shining Sea Bikeway is the only bikeway on Cape Cod to  the shore. The paved trail extends from Route 151 in Falmouth to the Woods Hole Steamship Authority’s site in Woods Hole. Download a full map here.
