A Whale of a Day in Orleans

GreyOrleansAhlstrom

Artist Sydney Ahlstrom’s Whale Sculpture Mock-Up

Life on Cape Cod has always been inextricably linked to the sea, and a new public art installation, set to be unveiled this Saturday, June 6th in Orleans, honors the Cape’s maritime roots. Created by Orleans artist Sydney Ahlstrom, the new installation depicts a eight-foot-long steel humpback whale in the diving position, set atop a one-ton fieldstone. This wonderful work was funded, in part, by the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, and the Massachusetts Cultural Council Adams Arts Program, as a way to highlight the vibrant community of artist that live, work, and thrive on Cape Cod. Be among the first to see this fantastic new sculpture by heading down, this Saturday at noon, to a brick path called Theresa’s Way, off Cove Road, across from the Left Bank Gallery. To celebrate the unveiling there will also be live music and activities throughout the picturesque town of Orleans, making it a memorable day for the whole family.

Land Ho!

Land Ho!

While you’re exploring Orleans, be sure to stop by the Cape Cod institution Land Ho! for some classic Cape fare, like clam chowder or their wonderful kale soup and a plate of fried clams. With its nautical decor and a great mix of locals and tourists all watching the Sox on the screens above the bar, it’s a great place for a lively but relaxed lunch.
