Life on Cape Cod has always been inextricably linked to the sea, and a new public art installation, set to be unveiled this Saturday, June 6th in Orleans, honors the Cape’s maritime roots. Created by Orleans artist Sydney Ahlstrom, the new installation depicts a eight-foot-long steel humpback whale in the diving position, set atop a one-ton fieldstone. This wonderful work was funded, in part, by the Cape Cod Chamber of Commerce, the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod, and the Massachusetts Cultural Council Adams Arts Program, as a way to highlight the vibrant community of artist that live, work, and thrive on Cape Cod.
