Artist Joan Jonas, pictured here in a 1981 performance, will be featured at MIT’s List Visual Arts Center.

With incredible restaurants, wonderful museums, and the cultural hotspot that is the American Repertory Theater, Cambridge is a lot more than just a college town. One of the most dynamic areas of the city is Central Square. It’s less touristy than the better known Harvard Square, but it’s got a lot to offer locals and visitors alike. If you put down roots in a Cambridge condo close by to this cultural and culinary hub, one thing is certain, you’ll have the world right outside your front door.

Joan Jonas

Another fantastic option is a new show at MIT’s List Visual Arts Center, on until July 5th, featuring seven Joan Jonas works in film and video from her extraordinary career. Immersed in the post-minimal experiments of New York’s downtown scene, Jonas developed her distinctive performances drawing on dance, ritual and various theater traditions in the late 1960s, and soon began to incorporate video into her work. The exhibition is being held in conjunction with the release of her new work for the U.S. Pavilion as part of the 2015 Venice Biennale. The List is located at 20 Ames Street in Kendall Square.
