Holmes and his wife were summer residents of Mattapoisett for fifteen years starting in 1873 until the house burned to the ground in a brush fire. Waterston, who was born 5 years after Holmes died, purchased a home here with his wife in 2008.
It’s not tough to figure out what attracted both men to the area. Mattapoisett is a small seaside community great for fishing, sailing, eating at a waterfront restaurant, or enjoying a concert at Shipyard Park. For cycling enthusiasts, a new bike path is in place which, upon completion, will connect Providence to Provincetown.
