You can battle with the ocean breezes on a seaside course or take on a row of pines on a tree-lined fairway. Whether you’re looking for a challenging adventure or a relaxed afternoon, there are incredible courses to explore all throughout Cape Cod. Here are five of the best public golf courses on the Cape.
Public Golf Courses on Cape Cod
1. Dennis Pines: Rating – 71.9/Slope – 127: The Pines has four sets of tees to accommodate golfers of all skill levels and experience. But their Championship tees at 7,029 yards will be a test for even the most accomplished player. New Yorker writer John Cassidy, who reviewed the Cape golf scene for Golf Digest, wrote that his favorite course is “the Pines, which stretches 7,000 yards from the back tees, and, as its name suggests, has many narrow, tree-lined holes.” The weekend green fee, including cart, is $85.

5. Highland Links: Rating – 65/Slope – 103: Unlike the other courses on this list, the Highland Links only has nine holes, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in history. This Truro fairway is one of America’s most historic golf courses. Robert Duca of The Boston Globe writes, “Highland Light, the oldest and tallest lighthouse on Cape Cod, serves as the backdrop. George Washington authorized the station and lighthouse in 1797. The original wood structure was replaced by a brick one in 1833, with the whole building replaced in 1857. In danger of tumbling down the cliff due to beach erosion, the lighthouse was moved to its current location behind the seventh green in 1996. After a golf ball shattered a window, unbreakable material was installed.”
John Cassidy writes of the course,”Perched atop steep cliffs overlooking the Atlantic, the course, which dates to 1892, is fescue-lined and wind-swept, with dramatic ocean vistas and close-up views of Highland Light, made famous by Edward Hopper. Even if the greens are a bit shaggy, it’s, without a doubt, the prettiest nine-hole course I’ve played.” Weekend greens fee is $45.
Robert Paul Properties has a listing with equally incredible ocean vistas on 3 Kill Devil, Truro. Built in 2001, the 3-dwelling waterfront compound sits atop a spectacular 3-acre bluff, with more than 150 feet of private sandy beach frontage on Cape Cod Bay.
