Welcome Shark Week 2023! 48 years ago, Steven Spielberg traveled to Martha’s Vineyard to begin production on the film that would scare away a generation on beachgoers from the water: Jaws. Today, the fascination with sharks on Cape Cod remains as strong as ever. We put together some ways you can enjoy this majestic sea creature this Summer.
Sharks on Cape Cod
Whether you regularly binge watch Shark Week or only have a rudimentary knowledge of the finned fish of the sea, Cape Cod has many organizations and opportunities dedicated to the education and interactive experience of sharks.
Atlantic White Shark Conservancy
The Atlantic White Shark Conservancy (AWSC) was established to support white shark research and education programs to ensure that this important species thrive. They work directly with the Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries to support current and long term white shark research projects.
AWSC is home to the Chatham Shark Center which offers interactive exhibits, videos, displays, and virtual reality experiences.
